Trout Fishing Excursions in Morocco at Tigmi

Serenely perched on the brow of a mud-walled, biblical Berber hamlet on the Haouz plain, Tigmi is a boutique hotel for those seeking well-placed seclusion.  Far enough away from the mayhem of Marrakech for quietude’s sake but near enough for a daytime visit (Tigmi provides a minibus service to/from Marrakech thrice daily), the hotel is run like a private house, with an infinity pool, private candle-lit dinners, countless cushions and cubby holes, hammam and stunning views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

New for 2009, Tigmi newly offers special two-night trout-fishing breaks: Leaving early in the morning by Land Rover, you’ll drive into the beautiful Tessaout Valley, about three hours from Marrakech in the heart of the high Middle Atlas. Over a 50 km stretch, a good number of fishing routes have been selected: routes for fly fishing only, and ones for rolled worm fishing, or spoon lure fishing. The brown trout are completely wild here, and you’re authorised to catch fish ranging from 20 to 40 cm.  A picnic lunch will be served, and then you’ll fish in teams of two.  There’s dinner and accommodation in the homes of local families in the Berber village of Ifoulou, and then the following morning it’s on to your next fishing site. At the end of that day, you return to your gîte for a cooked dinner and the night.  After breakfast the next morning you return to Tigmi.

This excursion is available mid-April to August fromThe Best of Morocco (0845 026 4588, www.realmorocco.com).  As at early 2009 they were offering a six-night stay from £1,097 pp, including flights (Gatwick), transfers, four nights’ half board at Tigmi and all costs of the two-night trout-fishing excursion.
